OBJECTIVES: To provide students with the arithmetic skills necessary to complete everyday mathematics.
GRADING PRACTICES: Students will be given one attempt at the exit exam at the end of the semester if they have regularly attended class throughout the semester (no more than 6 absences). A student may earn an additional attempt at the exam if, and only if, either of the following requirements is met:
An average of 80 or above has been maintained throughout the semester
Or
The student has good attendance throughout the semester (4 or fewer absences).
The grade in this course is either S or U. (No INC or W) There is no credit for this course. All Mat 001 students are required to also pass Mat 002, "Introduction of Algebra", before they register for a credit course.
ATTENDANCE: A student will be marked present if the student attends class on time with their textbook, notebook, calculator and a pen or pencil. The student must remain in class until class is over.
A student who attends class without above required materials will be marked unprepared and will count as an absence. A student arriving late or leaving early will be given half an absence. Cell phones are to be turned off while in class. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated and the students may be asked to leave the class.
CALCULATOR: All students must purchase a calculator. It will be used during class and for all exams.

All students must purchase the text immediately and bring the text to every class.
