For close to a full week, the college's ISP experienced network routing problems rendering the server that this site resides on inaccessible from off-campus for most people (including myself). I have always disliked using the 'mailto:' tag because, more often than not, browsers do not have their corresponding e-mail programs configured correctly. The 'mailto:' tag in most cases is just a waste. I decided to create my own e-mail interface with PHP. It is set up to e-mail me, but you can use it to e-mail anyone. The link for the page is located within the left toolbar.

The course pages are finally making their way to the site. Please make sure to report any problems with downloads to me.

Though the pages look no different than before, they are now written dynamically in PHP and access an SQL database. This was a great learning experience and not hard to do. If you want to learn something, just try it. I will display the code for the pages soon, look for a link in the toolbar.

As the headline says, I re-wrote all the comment processes in PHP. This was actually a lot easier than Perl handles it. Plus, I inserted a link that allows you to view the comment file. Next step is to start re-writing other parts of the site using PHP and MySQL.

The graphics in the toolbar did not work as planned, they took too long to load over a 56.6k connection. To solve the speed problem, I created a blank button image and inserted it as a background in the toolbar table, then just inserted text into the cell as normal. This gives the illusion of a button. View the CSS to see how this is done.

Added the graphics in the toolbar. Created buttons with various effects in Adobe Photoshop and the color change of the text is done by using a mouse event handler in JavaScript. The images are preloaded in an effort to create seemless rollovers for those with slower internet connections. View the source code to see how this is done. More soon.

Everything is still under major construction, mainly the course pages. You will find most of the content in 'helpful links' useful, especially for my summer CMP112 course. I wanted to create a table-fee page using all CSS and <div> tags. Upon creating this page, I stumbled upon all the problems encountered when trying to design for cross-platform and cross-browser (Thanks to all my PC testers). What a nightmare, the page will still not work in Netscape 4.x. Anyway, since my goal is to use this page for academic purposes, I decided that I would reach more students by using tables, though I did use as much CSS as I could. I believe, however, that in order to use internet technology to its full potential, people must keep their browsers at the latest released version. I will try to include some links pertaining to information about this.
